The protective structure was fitted around the famous Browne Doorway which has stood in Eyre Square for three-quarters of a century. The structure was commissioned by Galway City Council to provide a protective surround for the door which stands at the entrance to the John Fitzgerald Memorial Park, Eyre Square.
